About me
I am currently a junior, double majors in Strategic Communication and English at Washington and Lee University. Last summer, I interned for the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry in Washington, D.C., where I attended staff meetings, created memos, and drafted speeches for Arkansas Senator John Boozman. One of my most meaningful experiences was shadowing the Senator for a day. I learned his greatest responsibility is to make voices heard. At W&L, I write for the school newspaper, the Ring-Tum Phi, covering various events, organizations, and campus life throughout W&L and the Lexington community. Most importantly, I make genuine connections with students and members of the W&L and Lexington communities as I amplify their voices and stories. I also create digital media for the student health promotion organization, CampusWell. While targeting prominent campus health issues, I hone my media creation and communications skills to influence positive behaviors among students.
In the marketing, PR, and communications sectors, conversations and relationships can be transactional and manipulative. I strive to provide a genuine, human relationship that transcends the product or the business conversations. To me, meaningful work means helping others.
Career Goals & Music
My love of music goes beyond listening to and playing music. I want to make a career out of my passion for music and fully immerse myself in the music industry. I hope to work in Nashville for a music or entertainment agency. There is a unique rush or energy that I get from music. I want to help promote other musicians and benefit their careers.
At W&L, I play the bass and guitar in my fraternity band, Meat Puzzle. We played parties, contracted shows, and other campus events. I got my first guitar when I was in 9th grade and learned to play the bass as a freshman in college. I also host a radio show, where I talk about music and often interview friends with extensive music opinions. One of my favorite shows is when I recreate the podcast, "Guess the Year," which I have been a part (check this link). The host plays 30 seconds of a live Grateful Dead track from any of their 30 years, and contestants try to guess the year of the song.
